So, in my never ending request to find healthy and INEXPENSIVE food, I want to give this important part of living healthy it own page, its own just due justice!
Healthy Choice Soups
Okay, so they may be more expensive than Progresso...but it's still the best friggin canned soup I've EVER tasted! And because it's made by HC they're still low in fat and sodium versus traditional soups which is why I stopped buying so many of them. Now, I feel like I can do a soup and sandwhich lunch more often. In terms of points, I compared Progreeso's Light New England Clam Chowder with HC's New England Clam Chowder and Progresso does win 4 to 6. BUT HC's clam chowder is ACTUALLY creamy instead of runny like Progresso's version. You're not going to be hungry after you pee out the broth of this soup hahahaha! Speaking of, HC's brothy soups are not 75% broth with unidentifiable bits of floating veggies like Progresso's either lol. I mean I LIKE SOUP AGAIN! My absolute fave so far is the one soup I rarely eat because it is normally so high in fat and that's HC's Split Pea with Ham soup clocking in at 8 points for the whole can! Think that's too high for such a small meal? Firstly, the ham chunks are a nice size with a good amount sprinkled throughout. Add some saltines (10) and some fruit for and additional 4 pts for a super filling 12pt meal though honestly you probably won't need the fruit lol. As well, the Zesty Gumbo is actually lol and I didn't even mind the broth because it was still chock full of veggies and meat. Just catch them when they're on sale!
Walgreens Nuts
Um did you know that you can get a 2.25 bag of RAW Almonds from Walgreens for a meer $1.29 (99 cents on sale!)! That's right! My biggest fear with jumping on the whole raw almond craze all the stars swear by is simply I can't afford raw almonds! lol....I don't care ain't no shame in my game, hell I don't like almonds THAT much! Plus, when you buy them you usually have to buy a large quantity which may make portion control difficult. However, I bought the 2.25 bag and I ate off itcomfortably 3 times! Not bad! I havebeen buying unsalted peanuts to not only break my super douper peanut butter dependecy (fail lol) but also to have as a good HEALTHY fat in my diet (success). Every so often when I'm cooking and looking for a snack to hold me, I try to grab a hand of peanuts but again...portion control is iffy because it's a large jar. I think Walgreens got it right with the smaller bags! I believe they have regualr peanuts and honey roasted peanuts as well. Of course this may differ from market to market.
